Stop Reckless Driving in NYC

Stop Reckless Driving

Every year, approximately 250 New Yorkers are killed and 4,000 are seriously injured in traffic crashes. Being hit by a vehicle is the #1 cause of injury-related death for children under 14, and the #2 cause for seniors in New York City.

When a reckless driver killed 4-year-old Abigail Blumenstein and 1-year-old Joshua Lew this spring, it reminded us of just how devastating this can be.

That’s why I introduced the Reckless Driver Accountability Act, a bill that targets the most dangerous drivers in NYC (ones who have accumulated 5 or more traffic violations, or the top 1% most dangerous drivers) and would boot or impound their cars until they complete a driver accountability program that’s been shown to change driving behavior.
