Fix the Subways in NYC

Fix the Subways

According to the MTA's own 20-year needs assessment, signal failure is the leading cause of subway delays. Research form the Regional Plan Association and the NYTimes make it clear that modernizing the signal system is essential to bring greater reliability, speed, and capacity to our subways. In a survey conducted by my office in May 2017, 78% of over 1,500 survey participants said that modernizing the signal system should be the MTA's signal priority.

New York City Transit Authority President Andy Byford has taken our feedback seriously, and in May released his Fast Forward plan to fix the subways that prioritizes upgrading the signals. The plan includes an aggressive timeline for the next 5-10 years, much faster than the 50-year time frame suggested before.

Unfortunately, there is a serious lack of political will to deliver the funding necessary to implement this plan, which is why we need you to make your voice heard.

Sign the #SignalFail petition today and demand a commitment to implement the Fast Forward plan and finally fix the signals.
