Lander Welcomes Endorsement of NY Working Families Party

NEW YORK—The New York Working Families Party announced their early support for Brad Lander for the role of city watchdog on Monday, praising Lander’s progressive track record and history of working in deep partnership with community groups to advance racial and economic justice.

“For over a decade now, Brad has each poured his energy into fighting for a New York for the many. We’re proud to continue to back a long-time leader of the Working Families Party, by elevating his impactful leadership as he keeps up the fight. As the next Comptroller, we know Brad will lead with a clear vision of budget justice and the conviction to move funds to the communities where they are most needed,” said New York Working Families Party Director Sochie Nnaemeka. “Brad models what it means to bring the protest to the polls. We need his leadership now more than ever, and we’re proud to be on his team.”

Lander has been a long-time ally of the Working Families Party in New York, working with the WFP to pass paid sick leave legislation during his first term in the City Council, campaigning for WFP candidates to help defeat the Independent Democratic Conference, and urging voters to vote on the WFP line in the presidential election.

“The Working Families Party is building a political home for all of us who see bigotry, bailouts, and business as usual in our political system and know that we deserve better,” said Brad Lander, candidate for NYC Comptroller. “In New York, the 386,000 votes for Biden/Harris on the WFP line this November testify to their powerful role bringing together grassroots community groups, labor unions, elected officials, and people from every corner of our city to fight for tenant protections, living-wage jobs, climate action, and racial justice. I’m so honored to have the WFP’s support, grateful to be their partner, and eager for the work we can do together towards justice and equity for all New Yorkers.”

The Working Families Party endorsement cements Lander’s role as the progressive candidate in the race for NYC comptroller, and adds to the sitting Council Member’s growing momentum. Lander was recently endorsed by grassroots community organization Make the Road Action, New York Communities for Change, and VOCAL-NY Action Fund, adding to the growing list of progressive organizers, unions, community groups, candidates, and elected officials backing Lander.
